SECRET DE PRADES

Exclusivity, heritage and comfort
in the heart of Prades

A unique accommodation

A Unique Retreat Steeped in History

Discover the Secret of Prades, a rural house that holds centuries of stories and mysteries within its walls. Its origins date back to the Islamic period, when it formed part of the fortified village of Siurana and belonged to the Emirate of Xibrana in 1090. In 1153, Ramon Berenguer III conquered it, transforming it into a castle and, later, the residence of the Counts of Prades.

At the very heart of the castle, the church of Sant Miquel was built—a silent witness to turbulent times and a showcase of ancient architecture.

Of all the original buildings, the church has survived in the best condition. Today, it is divided into two parts, preserving the apse, a seven-metre section of the central nave, and a side chapel to the east, which now hosts the future historical interpretation centre dedicated to Queen Margarida of Prades. This space allows visitors to journey back in time and understand the house’s role in the region’s history.

El Secret de Prades occupies the remainder of the nave and the main entrance, now transformed into a distinctive rural house consisting of three apartments. Here, the grandeur of medieval architecture is harmoniously combined with modern premium design and comfort. Guests also have access to a co-working area and two terraces, offering the chance to admire the magic of a building declared a Site of National Interest.

Respect for history is evident in every detail: the building is protected by the Spanish government, and the materials used preserve its medieval essence—such as the artisan-crafted interior floors, air-dried and kiln-fired in a cave using techniques from Ancient Rome.

The construction’s solidity is striking, regular ashlar stone walls up to 1.6 metres thick, true to the great castles of the 12th century. The reddish sandstone from the Prades mountains gives the house a unique and unmistakable character.
El Secret de Prades is not just accommodation—it is a gateway to the past, an invitation to live surrounded by history, tradition, and beauty in an environment that enchants every visitor.
